Real IRA Trial

Lithuania – Michael Campbell is taken to court for attempting to buy arms and explosives for the Real IRA, splinter group of the IRA. His arrest comes from an effort between British and Lithuanian police to lower the amount of gun trafficking.

Campbell’s brother Liam Campbell, Real IRA leader Michael McKevitt and two other men were found liable for the Omagh car bomb on August 15, 1998 in Northern Ireland.

Campbell's arrest was the result of a joint operation between British and Lithuanian police. According to Romas Svagzdys, Lithuanian Police Firearms expert, "All guns and explosives are coming in from Russia, especially from Soviet times."
